August Zeller, American (1863-1918). Signed (on the side): A. Zeller Sculp./Phil.PA/1888. Name of sitter carved onto book spine Edith. Marble. Condition: Excellent, recently cleaned. Ex.Coll: Bergdorf Family. August Zeller was born in Bordentown, New Jersey in 1863. He attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and was taught by Thomas Eakins. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design in New York as well as at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
