Carved Eagle Wall Sconce

Probably English, ca. 1790-1815. Carved pine and gesso with gilt surface, Finely carved and executed, this rare and possibly unique wall sconce is made in three sections. The top portion has a carved eagle surmounted on a sphere with carved acanthus scrolls. The center section has gadrooning on the top and bottom portions of the column. The lower section has finely carved acanthus foliage behind four candelabras with wire-work scrolls. The sections were dowelled together and are now re-supported with wood blocks. There has been some restorations to the carving and gilt surface.
